Neil Postman, a communications professor at New York University, is a prolific writer on language, education and culture. Hailed by some as the new Marshall McLuhan, Postman has written and lectured extensively on the pervasive and often damaging effects of electronic media, especially television, on modern culture. He is the author of many books, including Teaching as a Subversive Activity (1969), Teaching as a Conserving Activity (1979), Amusing Ourselves to Death (1985) and Technopoly (1992).
